Well my friends, this post is long overdue, and I have to apologize for that. I hope you all have been enjoying this series, as I've enjoyed photographing and sharing with you!
So here we have the sewing and fashion books, which are so much fun to read, and also very useful for those times when I need an answer to a sewing question.
This is a fun 1970's Simplicity catalog. I'm not a huge fan of most 70's style, but I do like some of the dresses in this catalog.
The hair style of the model on the left reminds me of something Jane-Austen-ish, wouldn't you agree?
This book is more like a homemaking book, but it does have a few chapters on fashion and sewing. Other chapters are on cooking, manners, budgeting, time management and interior design. It's a really fun book to look through and there are little pamphlets stuck into pages for things like baby formula and baking soda, like the one pictured below.
Aren't they cuties?!
The book was published in the 1950's.
Another enjoyable 40's sewing book! It starts off with the basics of sewing, and then goes through instructions for aprons, dresses, trimmings (collars, ruffles, etc.), baby clothes and bedspreads.
This lovely book is from the early 60's. I like the simple layout of this book, especially how the end of the chapter is summarized, as pictured below. It's similar to the other books in content, covering pattern-cutting and dress construction, as well as altering.
What sewing books have you found helpful?
