Oireachtas 2014

The Oireachtas... Ah, it was a crazy-fun weekend! We got up early every morning, ate/ drank a lot of starbucks (conveniently located in the hotel lobby), ran a lot, used the escalators a bazillion times, texted a ton, scanned the competition book, zipped dresses up, pinned wigs in, waited anxiously for results, and ran some more.

As you can see from the above photos, competitive Irish step dancing involves a lot of... dressing up. Don't even get me started on how we wear those crazy wigs! It is fun to wear a pretty dress and get all dolled up, but I could totally do without the wig. :) I'm not sure where the whole wig thing came from, but recently a lot of people have been just wearing their hair in pretty updos, and I think I'm going to give it a try at my next competition. Anyway, aren't my two friends pictured above just lovely young ladies? They competed against each other, and both danced terrifically!

On another note, I want to thank everyone who has commented here on my blog! It's so encouraging and it puts a smile on my face!

  1. Oh my goodness, this looks amazing. I'm super interested in Irish music and dancing; it's one of those things I wish I had learned / knew more about.

I thoroughly enjoyed the documentary "Jig" on Netflix...although I'm sure it's sort of a melodramatic example of the most intense side of step dancing culture...have you seen it?

    1. Yes I have seen Jig! It is actually a pretty accurate depiction of the world of championship Irish step dancing. It can be pretty intense depending on what your teachers are like!
