This week I went to school, made doughnuts, worked at the farmer's market (indoors, thank goodness!) and enjoyed a feast of crepes, ice cream, and chocolate sauce before Lent begins. I'm enjoying this photo-a-day challenge, and once again I'm linking up with Natasha for this week.
How was your week?

Sounds like a fantastic week. Those doughnuts look fantastic. I've only ever successfully baked doughnut holes. How did you make those? Did you have a recipe?
ReplyDeleteThanks Susanna! First, I tried making the doughnuts using a wheat recipe, and subbing in some gluten free ingredients, which didn't end up working. So then I used a specific gluten free recipe and they came out better. The original wheat recipe I used was from here: http://www.thesugarhit.com/2014/05/blackberry-jam-custard-donuts.html
DeleteAnd the gluten free one was from here: http://glutenfreeonashoestring.com/glazed-yeast-raised-doughnuts/

I love the picture of the canned foods at the farmers market! So pretty! Thanks for linking up! :)
ReplyDeleteThanks Natasha!
DeleteThese are lovely!! Your photography is beautiful, Nuala. <3
ReplyDeleteAw, thanks Mariah! :)
DeleteIs that doughnut dough or bread dough up top? I really like all your photographs!
ReplyDeleteHi Clara!
DeleteIt's doughnut dough up top. :) That batch actually failed quite miserably as doughnuts because I was experimenting with gluten-free flour substitutions in a wheat recipe. The dough came out fine, it just wasn't good for a fried doughnut. :)
~Nuala
Have you tried using rice flour in a cake doughnut recipe? Rice flour substitutes wheat flour very well, and it is perfectly gluten free.
DeleteI love the dough picture! What kind is it?
ReplyDelete~Mary
Thank you Mary! The dough was for fried doughnuts, and I used a gluten-free bread flour instead of regular wheat flour. (hence the flax specs) It didn't quite turn out right when it was fried or baked because of the gluten-free substitutions. It was fun experimenting though!
